10-Minute Sangria: The Easy Friday Night Jug with Portuguese Wine
Share
Friday night, friends on the way, and no time to fuss. A big jug of sangria is the easiest way to say welcome.
Proper sangria often rests for hours. This version is made for real life: tinned fruit in syrup does the sweetening and soaking for you, so it tastes good in minutes.
Ready in about 10 minutes, makes 1 large jug (about 6 glasses)
You will need
- 1 bottle (750ml) of easy-drinking red such as Pedras Negras red or Tagus River red
- 1 tin Ferbar fruit salad in syrup, with about half the syrup
- 1 orange and 1 lemon, sliced
- 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
- About 300ml sparkling water or lemonade, chilled
- Plenty of ice
Method
- Tip the fruit salad and half its syrup into a large jug.
- Add the orange and lemon slices and the cinnamon stick, and gently crush the fruit with a spoon to release the juice.
- Pour in the wine and stir well. If you have time, chill for 10 minutes.
- Just before serving, add ice and top up with the sparkling water or lemonade.
- Pour into glasses with a little fruit in each.
Make it your own
- White sangria: use a light Gazela Vinho Verde and tinned peaches.
- Hosting a crowd? A 3 litre bag-in-box makes four jugs.
- Driving or not drinking? Make the same jug with red grape juice and sparkling water so everyone joins in.
Please drink responsibly, and never drink and drive.
