Spaghetti and meatballs in tomato sauce with mushrooms, Yum Biltong 20-minute recipe

20-Minute Spaghetti and Meatballs: The Family Favourite, Faster

Spaghetti and meatballs is the dinner nobody argues about. The trouble is, rolling meatballs after a busy day is nobody's idea of fun.

So we skip that part. Ready meatballs, a quick tomato sauce and a pack of good spaghetti, and you have a proper family meal in 20 minutes.

Ready in about 20 minutes, serves 4

You will need

Method

  1. Put a big pan of salted water on to boil and cook the spaghetti following the pack time.
  2. Meanwhile, soften the onion in the oil for 4 to 5 minutes, then add the garlic for 1 minute.
  3. Pour in the tomato pulp, add the oregano and mushrooms, and simmer gently.
  4. Add the meatballs to the sauce and heat them through as the pack directs, until piping hot.
  5. Drain the spaghetti, keeping a splash of the cooking water. Toss the pasta with a little sauce and the water, then pile into bowls and top with meatballs and cheese.

Make it your own

  • Gluten free at home? Use Milaneza gluten free spaghetti and check the meatball label.
  • Hide extra veg for the kids by grating a carrot into the sauce with the onion.
  • Leftovers make a brilliant baked pasta tomorrow: cover with cheese and grill until bubbling.
